Hope by DMMDesign Hope by DMMDesign
Taken at an unnamed beach on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe. This was during a tremendous windstorm where I took a chance the clouds would break up enough to display a nice sunset. What I got instead was a shrouded peek of what it looks like on the other side. The waves were pounding and the water was being picked up off the lake and spraying me. I spent the first half hour I was there wiping and defogging my lens. 450 second exposure 10 stop B+W neutral density filter at F11 and 100 iso, and composed with a prayer.

I named it "Hope" because despite the chaotic conditions that were present, you can a see break in the storm - sort of a "light at the end of the tunnel" - in this case, very colorful light, like seeing a rainbow at the end of a thunderstorm. It tells us that tomorrow is going to be a better day - that in all this chaos there is still Hope.

This stunning example of an Image is one of the best photographs I have ever seen.
The extremely detailed Stones match perfectly to the dark, blue sea and the colours of the sky.
The sky is simply awesome, the coulours are great, and gives it a wonderful touch.
The very long exposure adds to the terrifying mood, and makes it, together with the sky kind of surreal.

So all in all, this is, in my opinion, an incredible image, wonderfully composed, great depth of field, and a great colour range :)
This is my opinion, and if you do not agree, please tell ;)

Very "inspirational" indeed!  What a great description of the hurdles you had to overcome to successfully create this exposure.  The title is very fitting.

Wasn’t initially sure how this photo could be related to “Hope”, but after hearing what you had to go through just to take the shot, I’d say you’re completely right.

Considering how universal it looks, from the light show to the eerie surface, it feels like you’re on an unnamed planet thousands of light years from home rather than an actual beach in Lake Tahoe. Are you sure you’re not masquerading as a photographer and are an astronaut instead? =p

Whatever, that’s not for me to ask. What is there for me is to be thoroughly taken away through such an imaginative, patient and deeply beautiful photograph. Amazing work buddy, keep it up!

It tells us that tomorrow is going to be a better day - that in all this chaos there is still Hope for things to improve. :) I'm so glad you like it! And no, I'm no astronaut :), but I do view Tahoe in my own unique way - you definitely don't see photos of Tahoe like this!

Indeed I did, and I sure hope you can continue shooting great shots like this. Take care! :)

Sure - after looking at your photos, I can give you a few tips. First, you need to set your aperture to a higher number - something like F11 - F22 for those landscape pictures - What this does is increases the depth of your photo and sharpens the image from middle to the edges instead of just the center of the picture. Every lens is different and has it's own sweet spot, so you'll have to experiment with different apertures to see which look sharpest to your eyes. Second, try to do most of your photography during morning and evening as the sun is at an angle and will give your photos more depth and contrast. Shooting photos while the sun is on top of you will make your photo flat! When possible, shoot toward the sun. Obviously if the sun is right in the middle of your photo, you will get a bunch of lens flares ruining you picture, so try to have the sun just to the right, left, or above the photo you are taking - or try to find a tree, branch, rock, or anything that can partially block the sun. If you haven't already started - go to full manual mode on your camera and experiment with the shutter, aperture, and iso settings and figure out how they work together to make a properly exposed image. Taking photos on automatic would be wasting your time and will set you back in the learning process. Also, don't you the flash - it washes everything out and will make your photos look unnatural. :)
