Halcyonic Flow by DMMDesign Halcyonic Flow by DMMDesign

Truckee River between Tahoe City and Truckee. Water is barely moving after two lousy winters here. I walked out to the middle of the river to take this shot - normally that's not possible as the water is too deep and flowing too fast. I didn't get frost bite from the cold water but did come home with a nasty splinter in my foot! The water is barely moving with the exception of the few splash marks you can see in the photo from where the fish were jump out. Anyways, I'm happy with the photo, but it was cold, cold, COLD!

Okay, so let me start out by saying that this is a very lovely picture and i would love to have like a post card of it or something. and where it would make a very nice post card, as and art piece its not anything that i haven't seen before and it not really that strongest piece of photography I have seen either. now don't get me wrong i would love the way this picture is framed and it has very lighting and atmosphere. My problem comes in when i start to think of it less as a picture and more as an art piece. The problem with it as an art piece is that there is nothing really all that interesting to look at. One person who i feel does really interesting landscapes is Zack Schnepf. his photos have this personality to them that really just makes these landscapes feel alive. If you look at his work you will see that he treats his photos almost like a painting, and the result of this is a very surreal experience.

My advice to you would be to try using a range of lenses, and see what you get, as well as looking into some really artsy photographers and seeing what you get, but if you really don't want to go into that artsy stuff so much you can always just keep doing what your doing because this picture is beautiful.
What do you think?
